The idea of being consistent seems to be a thing of the past. Other than going to work because you have to in order to keep a roof over your head, when was the last time you did something consistently over a period of time as a hobby?

It could be tennis, hiking, boating, watching your favorite television show, working out, etc. The most common answer is watching a favorite television show. But if you really think about it, do you watch it consistently?

With today’s technology, it is unlikely that you sit down in front of the television at the same time every day or week and watch the show. You might TiVo it to watch it at a later date, or something in real life will come up that prevents you from watching it.

But what if you made a promise to yourself that you were going to work out with a consistency that no matter what you stuck to your routine? This means that you might be working out at ten o’clock at night or it might require you to get up very early to work out before work.

Do you think that you can do that? I know you can. The power to be consistent is in all of us and it comes from being able to believe in ourselves with the trust that we can follow a plan. Then our dedication will keep us consistent on our goals.

How To Stay On Track

Never ever say I’ll do it tomorrow. Tomorrow never really comes because there is not a set time and date that you are going to do it. If you do have to move it to tomorrow, set an exact date and time.

For example, if it is Wednesday, write down on a piece of paper that Thursday at 9:00am you have an hour blocked off to workout. This completely eliminates the possibility of a vague tomorrow and gives you an actual schedule which will increase your consistency.
 
Another simple idea is to just do it. Like the Nike phrase says, if you have it planned, just do it. No matter how much fun you are having doing something else or regardless of how unmotivated you are, just get your carcass into the gym and workout.

I have had to “just do it” plenty of times. Every day is going to be different and sometimes you just don’t want to go. Yet, if you do just go and do it, you usually come out of the gym and workout more energized and in a better and more motivated mood.
