This seems to be the most popular question of them all in the workout industry. Not only is it the most popular, but it is usually followed with how do I lose it? The answer may surprise you, but it is not just your diet and exercise. But since that is what everyone knows, we will start with those.

Exercise

Exercise increases metabolism and burns off fat. This is why it is very important to get into a good routine. By keeping a consistent workout program going, your body will learn to stay in shape. Cardio workouts will be your best friend in this category.

Diet

When it comes to eating right, there are very few people that do. Personally I sometimes don’t even eat correctly because I just need a good cheeseburger every once in a while. If you can learn to eat more vegetables and fruits while cutting back on your sweets, you might be astonished at how your body could change.

So what else causes belly fat? These next few may surprise you!

Eating Late At Night

Want to know what causes belly fat? If you are one of those people that tend to eat late at night, especially right before going to bed you are making a major mistake!

When the body goes to sleep, its digestive processes stop and immediately store anything that is remaining into fat. Unfortunately, this will go right to your stomach increasing the cellulite around your someday to be flat stomach!

Genetics

This one I tend to find as more of an excuse, but it still technically is a factor. In reality, genetics only counts for about 10% of your appearance. With good diet and consistent exercise you will be able to lose belly fat and get that dream body you always wanted.

Genetics does tell your body how quickly and where it is going to store fat. Basically it tells your body what causes belly fat through genetic code.

So depending where you are in the gene pool you might have to work out harder or more frequently than others. The term, “I’m big boned” is a genetic trait, but that is not an excuse if you are overweight. Regardless of your genetics you can always get the dream body you’ve always wanted through consistency.

Slow Metabolism

Since we are on the genetics topic, I’d like to throw this one in there. Genetics does start your body off at a certain rate to break down your food. You can actually change this rate by staying hydrated and working out.

The stronger and thicker your muscles get, the more energy your body needs. Therefore, the more you workout and develop towards your dream body, the faster your metabolism will become in order to get as many nutrients as possible out of what you eat.

Remember muscle doing nothing burns more calories than fat by itself!
